We loved starting our new topic 'How did that blossom become an apple?' by making fruit salads. We made sure we washed our hands and our fruit. We discussed the differences between the inside and outside of some of the fruit. Some of us tried new fruit for the first time and we used great team working skills to create yummy salads!

We celebrated Chinese New Year by making dog masks to celebrate the year of the dog. We tried new Chinese food, prawn crackers, vegetable spring rolls and fortune cookies!

IMPORTANT! Due to the severe weather today, World Book Day has been moved to Monday 5th March! Remember our theme in Year 3 is Roald Dahl characters, if you would like to dress up.

Tuesday 27th February - Friday 2nd March World Book Week

Thursday 1st March - World Book Day

We really enjoyed our bounceback sessions on Tuesday! We had to jump, crawl, climb and travel over lots of amazing equipment! Thanks to Mr Porter for bringing them into school!

We had great fun during D&T week making our own volcanoes in our Kagan teams! We cannot wait to erupt them after Christmas.

We have been learning throwing and catching skills in our P.E. games lesson with our new Manchester City coach.

Today we have learnt ways of travelling and balancing in Gymnastic with Year 2.

Year 3 Newsletter ~ Autumn 2 2017 ~ 2018

On Thursday our new topic was introduced in an exciting and interesting way. The children had to answer the following questions, what’s happened to our classroom? Why is it like this? What could have caused this? Our new Topic is 'What Makes the Earth Angry?'

Well done to our 'Certificate of Achievement Autumn Term ' pupils! You both have both shown perseverance, stick-ability and lots of hard-work over the half term. You are both always helpful around the classroom and to others. Also a well done to the rest of 3SJ who have been extremely enthusiastic and conscientious throughout this half term, it was very hard to choose only two from such a wonderful group of pupils!

In English we have been looking at 'stories in familiar settings', we have read the story 'I'll take you to Mrs Cole'. We have planned and wrote our own version of a story in a familiar setting. To ensure our work is the best it can be we have been using editing stations to evaluate, edit and improve our work. We had lots of fun moving around and up-leveling our work!

We had a wonderful time looking at L.S. Lowry. We carefully looked at the work of the famous artist to learn more about his style and techniques. We learnt that Lowry would create a very pale background against which to place his figures, making them stand out. After that, we used pastels to create a landscape scene in the style of L.S. Lowry. After this we recreated a portrait in the style of L.S.Lowry.

Science - We have loved our Science topic of Magnets and Forces. We have investigated the different poles of a magnet and if they attract or repel! We have also learnt which objects are magnetic in our classroom!

3SJ learning to dribble and pass in our outside P.E lesson. We loved starting to learn about Hockey!

3SJ Science investigation - Are all magnets the same strength? Working with our Kagan groups to find out!
