Child Health Advice

Choose Well this winter - Get the Right Treatment at the Right Place

Do you know where to go if you or your child becomes ill this winter? Many health problems can be treated at home, NHS Direct can give medical advice and information, and your local pharmacist can advise on common ailments. GPs are always available; either at the surgery, through the GO To DOC Out of Hours Service, or at Ashton Primary Care Centre's walk-in service. The NHS Dental Service or Out of Hours Urgent Dental Care Service is available if you have problems with teeth. Accident and Emergency is only for serious and life threatening conditions.

The Right Treatment at the Right Place campaign is being run by NHS Tameside and Glossop (which buys health services on your behalf). From December through to February you will see billboards, articles in the press, posters, and leaflets within the community to help you know where to go.

Information on local services and information leaflets to help you deal with common childhood illnesses have been sent home with each child so please check inside your child's school bag.   All the information is also available to download below.

DO NOT send your child into school if they have any ONE of the following symptoms: (1) A HIGH TEMPERATURE (this mean they feel hot to the touch on their back or chest) - (2) A NEW, CONTINUOUS COUGH (this means coughing a lot, for more than one hour, or 3 or more coughing episode within 24 hours) - (3) A LOSS OR CHANGE TO SENSE OF SMELL OR TASTE (this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal)
