School Sports Day 11.07.2012

This years sports day was inside due to the weather! However, there were some personal best scores achieved. Two children were chosen from each class who demonstrated the Olympic sporting values throughout the chellenges. Everyone enjoyed the day and the various cultural related music selection playing in the background. We would also like to thank the Year 6's and Young Sports Ambassadors from New Charter who 'ran' the different stations. A super day despite the rain!

Lacrosse

Holden Clough having received the plate at the school games lacrosse competition. Out of the 18 schools that competed we won one and lost two matches in the first heats. This put us in the b round competing for the 'plate’ with eight other schools. We won two out of the three matches played and came second in our group heats. We then went into the semi-final won that and qualified for the final against Norden School. It was a close fought match with goals being scored each end by each team! It was joyous, tense and exciting all at the same time! At the buzzer we were a goal ahead and won! The other team played brilliantly and it was a truly thrilling game.

For our first time as a school games competitor we all felt it was a brilliant day and would like to pass on our thanks to all the organisers at the athletics track but also all the referees, runners, scorers etc. at the Armitage centre. It made a good day brilliant.

Basketball Team 2013

Our team got through to the finals at Copley. This is the team we took to Copley for the basketball finals. We were on of only 8 schools who attended this competition out of all of the Tameside schools. Unfortunately we didnt win but enjoyed the experience.

All the children were dressed in colours linked to a country participating in this years Olympic games. Following our opening speech and oath made by our Young Ambassadors, Ella and Adam, we watched some of our most talented children from each class. They were amazing! To finish we sung the National Anthem and song 'Proud' by Heather Small. Our Oath We promise when Participating in Holden Clough Olympic Games, we will follow the rules fairly whilst showing the true spirt of sportamanship, friendliness and respect to others, as well as demonstrating that it is not always the winning but the importance to do our best in taking part.
