Physical Education

Vision Statement

At Holden Clough we endeavour to support and promote excellence through PE whilst advocating healthy lifestyles and the opportunity for children to engage in regular competitive sport and activities, therefore developing competency in a broad range of PE.

Current PE Provision

Our current provision involves the delivery of two hours physical education to all children throughout the school.  Consistent with the PE curriculum, we teach four four core units from years 1-6, athletics, games, dance and gymnastics.  In Recpetion, dance, gymnastics and games are also taught, whilst in nursery there is an emphasis on developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy.  Staff wear a designated PE teaching kit, and CPD is continually being sought in order to improve staff teaching of physical education.

Alongside this, Years 3 and 4 also attend swimming lessons over the course of a term, helping to ensure they meet the requirement of being able to swim 25 metres by the conlcusion of KS2.  We also work closely with a number partner agencies ensuring each year group has access to any enhancing additional provision at some stage throughout the year.

Below, further information can be found regarding our PE provision.

Change 4 Life Sporticus Club

What is it all about?

Change 4 Life is a national initiative supported by the Youth Sports Trust, promoting the message to Eat Well, Move More and Live Longer.  The idea behind this initative is to help children lead a healthier more active lifestyle. Our School Sports Premium has enabled us to create a Club to deliver this message and provide opportunities for children and their families to get involved.

Activities - The Club offers a wide range of fun, engaging child-initiated and adult led games and challenges, which differ each week for example; mini circuits, relays, and invasion games.

Choices - Their is a balance of different games and activities in which children can create and participate in. They have options to work individually or in groups and can challenge themselves with their personal levels of fitness.

Teamwork – There are opportunities each week for the children to interact with other members.

Inspiring – Our idealism is to encourage parents to attend this club along with their own children to help assist teachers in delivery and really re-enforce the message that being active and leading a healthy lifestyle is of huge significance.

Values – The Change 4 Life message and the 7 Core Values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games are promoted within the Sporticus Club.  We aim to further promote the ethos of London 2012  by offering praise, rewards and positive reinforcement.  We strive to ensure that children implement these values to become more confident, resilient and determined young people.

Club Links

We have established club links with the following sports clubs with the intention of signposting children to these clubs depending on the sport.  If you would like your child to join one of these clubs please see Miss Johnson as she has contact details for people involved in these clubs.
