Recycling

Year 3 and Year 4 completed interesting sessions on bins and recycling! Alison Heaton from Greater Manchester Viridor Laing came into school and spent a morning and afternoon respectively with each class. All the children are now recycling experts!

What a success!!

The whole school took part in our first Low Carbon day. Each class worked on a variety of work and activities on this day intended to raise our awareness about the damage carbon is having on our earth.

What did we do?

  • Each class teacher did not use their computer or Interactive White boards all day.
  • The computer suite was closed for the day.
  • Lights were only switched on when necessary.
  • We washed our hands carefully but quickly.
  • The office turned off their computers all day.
  • The kitchen staff provided cold food for lunch times.
  • Our cleaning team used brushes and used the vacuum cleaner less.

EVERYONE WAS INVOLVED!!

What next?

In some classes children made a pledge to reduce their carbon footprint......

  • By not watching TV all the time. - Rohan,
  • By continuing to recycle bottles, paper and plastic. - Mia,
  • To always have a shower instead of a bath to save on water. - Zainab C,
  • To turn off my microwave after I have used it. - Rebekah.

Growing our own food!

We are starting to plan for our allotments.
There will be different vegetables growing in the separate beds.
We will be building quality time for children to plant, maintain and observe the beds.

The school allotments, where we have grown, carrots, potatos and leeks.
