In November 2016, I became the new Chair of Governors at Holden Clough Primary School. I currently have a Grandson that attends the School and I am keen to support and help the School continually improve.
I was a teacher in Tameside schools for 34 years until my retirement, and I held responsibility for a wide range of curriculum areas throughout my career. I taught mainly Key Stage 2 classes, but had experience of working with Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes on a regular basis. I led Adventure holidays and trips for the pupils annually. Several of the establishments at which I worked underwent amalgamations and one was relocated to new premises, so I have been involved in managing change at those schools. I was a member of the Senior Leadership Team and also a staff governor at my last school.
For a long time I have been a leader at 2/1st Hurst Scout Group, where I am at present the Group Scout Leader, which means I have responsibility for the Overall Strategic Direction of the Scout Group. I am also a trustee of the Charity. I have at various times been a Cub Scout Leader, the Assistant District Commissioner for Cub Scouts and I currently also serve on the Appointments Committee for North Tameside Scouts, all of which are roles of a managerial nature.
My aim will be to try to ensure that any future changes have only a positive impact on the already high standards of Teaching and Learning in the school.
